If you have a lot of data in Windows XP, now is the time to make a backup of it while we hand-hold you through the recommended upgrade procedure from Windows XP. This option is the one that Microsoft recommends. The other solution is to do a clean installation of Windows 7 (which would wipe out your Windows XP).
The first one is to upgrade to Vista and then upgrade to Windows 7 but that’s not really recommended for obvious reasons.
